A Journey to the Emerald Island of Ionian
Located on the west of Greece, in the middle of Ionian Sea, part of the 7 islands Archipelago and connected to the mainland by a floating bridge, Lefkada is one of the very few islands accessible by car. You can also choose to travel there by ferry from Κefalonia and Ithaca or fly to the most close airport of Preveza (PVK) which is 18 km away by car. Port of Igoumenitsa is 100 km away and port of Patras is 170 km away too.
It has a modern marina with mooring of 500 ships.
It has an amazing group of small islands (Scorpios of Onasis, Madouri of Valaoritis, Meganisi, Sparta, Heloni, Skorpidi, Kalamos, Kastos etc.) ideal for sailing and daily cruises.
Lefkada’s name means white and refers to its beautiful white cliffs in the southern part of the island. Its capital city is also called Lefkada and is one of the most popular summer destination. Visit the old town which was built during Venetian period (1684-1797). Old town is famous for its castle, museums and churches from the 17th century. Lefkada combines impressive villages by the sea and mountainous settlements. On the western coast of Lefkada, you will see the wild site of the island and some of the most beautiful beaches of Mediterranean. It offers natural beauty all around, from its green forests to its crystal-clear waters. Lefkada is definitely a go-to location for upbeat vacations with amazing sights to see, and a variety of activities to partake in, from water-sports to clubbing.
Lefkada is the 4th biggest island in the Ionian Sea and it amazes all the visitors with the exotic blue of its beaches.
Agios Ioannis – Mili: for wind surfers and kite surfers, 4,5 km beach. Kastro – Ammoglossa – Gyra: locals preference. Milos: at the village of Agios Nikitas, 20 minutes walk or by taxi boat. Kathisma: for sky parachute, the most cosmpolitan beach of Lefkada with many beach bars and restaurants. Gialos: a bit further from Athani village. Porto Katsiki: one of the most known beaches of Lefkada and among the 10 best beaches in Greece with its fine white sand under the impressive white cliff. Vasiliki: is a paradise of wind-surfers. Agiofylli: at the eastern side of the island. Don’t miss out Egremni beach, but note that after the earthquake in 2015 the path that was leading to the beach is totally destroyed, access is only possible by boat.
At Nidri don’t forget to see the amazing waterfalls, at Sfakiotes village walk in canyon of Melissa and have a visit in forest of Skaros with oak trees and amazing view over Nikiana village.
It has raised great personalities of the arts and sciences such as Agni Baltsa, Lefkadios Hern (Giakomo Koizoumi), national poet of Japan, Valaoritis, Sikelianos, Aristotle Onassis worldwide famous for his business dexterity.
Famous about its traditional products as roe from the ivari of lagoon, wines, embroideries (opposite stitch), orgeat, honey of thyme, nougats with honey, nougats, lentil, salamis.
